I don’t consider myself beginner, I own another three telescopes (14″ Dob, 6″ SC goto and Coronado) and bunch of binos. This little scope I intend to take with me for my vacation in south. For obvious reasons I can’t take my large telescopes to an aircraft so it seemed a good option to have a chance to peek south of the equator.
I didn’t expected any miracles for money spent but I still have some complains about this package. First thing I changed right away were diagonal and eyepieces. No problem there I have diagonal and bunch of Plossls laying around. Tripod is my concern. It is very flexible and flimsy and alt and az joints (no panning head) are so rough it is exercise in patient and waste of time to try point where you need, not to mention track the object. I understand it needs to be kept light and small but there in no excuse for panning joints to be so bad. Next is the backpack. Poor protection for scope, not enough padding, poor fit, OT and tripod can bang around with no good restrain. Not really for travel.
As I said for money spent one can’t expect too much but still a basic functionality of ALL components shouldn’t be problem to achieve even if it cost a few extra buck.
